"Porta — Rodó" Cement Doorstop – Reshaping Collection

The Concept:

Part of the ongoing Reshaping Collection, Porta — Rodó — the round one — is the most elemental form in the cement doorstop series. A ball cast in dark grey Portland cement, finished with a natural jute rope handle: no motif, no division, no color. Just material, weight, and the satisfying logic of a thing that does exactly what it says it will.

The Form:

The dark grey cement surface is raw and slightly varied — the natural result of hand-casting rather than industrial production. Each piece cures differently, absorbs pigment differently, holds the light differently. The jute rope handle softens the industrial material without disguising it. Placed beside a door, on a pale floor, against a white wall, Porta — Rodó disappears into the architecture — which is precisely the point.
