The Concept:
Part of the ongoing Reshaping Collection, Porta — Vela is a hand-cast cement doorstop carrying the most recognizable silhouettes of the Costa Brava coastline: the sail, and the anchor. Cast in Portland cement in The Studio, stamped by hand with boat and anchor motifs, and finished with a natural jute rope handle, this is a functional object that holds the weight of a door and the memory of a place simultaneously.
The Form:
At 14cm tall and 10cm in diameter, Porta — Vela is substantial without being imposing. The raw cement surface — slightly rough, slightly warm, specific to the material — grounds it in the Reshaping Collection's commitment to recovered and honest materials. The jute rope handle adds a nautical detail that connects the piece to the harbour and fishing culture of Palamós without veering into souvenir territory.
